Sydney detectives are investigating the circumstances around the death of Sydney boy Aidan Fenton, 7 (pictured above as a baby with his parents Geoff and Lily).

Aidan’s family were taking part in an $1800 week-long alternative Chinese medicine workshop at the Tasly Healthpac Centre in Hurstville, News Corp reports.

Aidan “attended the course in Hurstville last week, where he was made to fast and then vomited. It is believed he may also have taken part in the slapping before falling seriously ill and dying as he was rushed to hospital on Monday night,” the paper reports.

Police are now investigating the “healer” who hosted the seminar, Honghi Xiao (pictured below).

Mr Xiao is an advocate for slapping and stretching therapy, which he claims can “enhance the wellness” of diabetic people.

Mr Xiao was in Sydney following a tour of New Zealand to promote “Paida-Lajin” therapy, which involves slapping the body until it bruises to “unblock meridians and drive out poisons.”

According to a blog linked to Mr Xiao – or “Master Xiao” as he is referred to – slapping and patting clears the blockages of the body.

Patients who attend his seminars can tell what illness they have based on the amount of bruising and the colour of the bruising.

It is understood Mr Xiao has already left Australia.

Alternative wellness techniques have come under sharp criticism this year, with many calling for a total overhaul of the wellness sector.
