Last Christmas Eve, Zara and Mike Tindall made the devastating announcement they had lost their second child.
It’s believed Zara was about four months into her pregnancy – the couple had tragically made the announcement they were pregnant just a few weeks earlier.
Now Mike has spoken candidly about Zara’s miscarriage to the Sunday Times, revealing their daughter Mia Tindall, 3, has been their “saving grace”.
It’s the first time that Tindall has spoken publicly of the loss of the couple’s second child.
“One thing you do learn is how many other people have had to go through the same,” Mike, 38, told the Sunday Times.
“The saving grace for us has been Mia, our daughter who is now 3,” he said.
“However down we feel she will come running up in our faces,” Mike continued.
“When I was playing [rugby] I hardly saw her; now we can see her grow up. I can take her swimming and I can take her to Ninja Tots. You’ll never be able to see her there because she disappears in a puff of smoke.”
From what we know about adorable little Mia, this sounds about right!
For the past few years, the pint-sized royal has been charming us with her hilarious and very boisterous antics. She is one of the Queen’s great-grandchildren, cousin to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Isla Phillips and Savannah Phillips.
From galloping on her daddy’s shoulders to stealing her great grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s handbag during royal photos, nothing is off-limits for the free-spirited tot.
Last year, Mia let her mischievous nature shine in an official royal portrait, taken for Her Majesty in celebration of her 90th birthday.
In the now famous snap, Mia proudly holds onto The Queen’s handbag while the rest of her great-grandchild appear well-behaved (watch Mike explain her antics below!).
Mike and Zara made their first public appearance after their sad news at the Magic Millions Polo on the Gold Coast in January.
At one point during the day, Zara fell off her horse but her besotted hubby Mike reassured guests over the loud speaker:
“That’s her will to win. She’s tough, she bounces,” the former rugby union player said.
Looks like high-spirited Mia is going to take right after her amazing mum.
