We’re starting to think Donald Trump and daughter Ivanka have a slightly strange relationship. It’s just a hunch, kind of unfounded. I mean, today, the president revealed his 35-year-old daughter still calls him Daddy, but other than that, unfounded.
While giving a speech about tax reform, Trump went off script, which by now must honestly have his speech writers looking like this:
“By the way, Ivanka Trump,” the president said. “Everybody loves Ivanka.”
“Sometimes they’ll say, ‘You know, he can’t be that bad a guy’ — look at Ivanka,” Trump continued.
You can almost see his eye twitch as he pretends he’s not bothered that his approval rating is the lowest of any US president in 70 years – at least he has a hot daughter.
“No, come on up, honey. She’s so good. She wanted to make the trip.”
“She said, ‘Dad, can I go with you?’ She actually said, ‘Daddy, can I go with you?’” Trump said, correcting himself.
“I like that, right? ‘Daddy, can I go with you?’ I said, ‘Yes, you can.’ ‘Where are you going?’ ‘North Dakota.’”
That’s right – he went out of his way to emphasise that his West Wing advisor called him Daddy not Dad, AND that he liked it.
This is, of course, on the back of his other creepy comments about his daughter, like in 2006 when he said: “If Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps, I would be dating her.”
I know we’ve heard that 1000 times, but you can imagine hearing another dad saying that at school drop-off?
And then in 2015, when he told Rolling Stone that: “Yeah, she’s really something, and what a beauty, that one. If I weren’t happily married and, ya know, her father . . . ”
Bleach our ears please. People took to Twitter to express their disgust:
