A new book about the life of Robin Williams has revealed a darker side to the beloved comedians “playful” personality.
Writer David Itzkoff interviewed Williams’ Mork & Mindy co-star, Pam Dawber, now 66, who recounted the actor “flashed, humped, bumped and grabbed” her, but she maintains his actions were “so much fun.”
These actions also included Williams walking on set naked and breaking wind on Dawber.
“If you put it on paper, you would be appalled,” the Guardian reports the actress told Itzkoff during her interview.
“But somehow he had this guileless little thing that he would do — those sparkly eyes. He’d look at you, really playful, like a puppy, all of a sudden. And then he’d grab your tits and then run away. And somehow he could get away with it. It was the ’70s, after all.”
“I never took offence,” Dawber reassures. “I think he probably did it to a lot of people.”
Robin’s behaviour, which today could quickly be labelled as sexual harassment, was reinforced by Mork and Mindy director Howard Storm.
Storm told the David Itzkoff that it was all just “Robin being Robin” and was excused as the actor being bored.
Robin Williams tragically died at the age of 63 in 2014, after taking his own life. He’d been battling severe depression.
He was best known for roles in Dead Poets Society, Aladdin, Hook, Mrs. Doubtfire and Jumanji.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Schneider, and three children.
