Retailer H&M has issued an apology after receiving severe backlash online over a ‘racist’ hoodie.
The image, which appeared on their UK website, shows a black child modelling a hoodie with the slogan “coolest monkey in the jungle”.
Social media platforms were set alight by horrified users after the image circulated on Twitter.
To add fuel to the already blazing fire, some famous names also called out H&M for the image. Musician Questlove posted this message to his 1.1million followers on Instagram:
And Grammy award-winning singer The Weeknd conveyed his disgust too, hitting out at the retailer to his 8.4million Twitter followers:
People were also quick to slam the juxtaposition of the young white models compared to the young black model.
H&M issued the following apology to INSIDER: “We sincerely apologize for offending people with this image of a printed hooded top. We believe in diversity and inclusion in all that we do and will be reviewing all our internal policies accordingly to avoid any future issues.”
