Not only is he a world-class athlete, Jo displayed at the Australian Open that he’s also an ace of a person. During Wednesday night’s match against Australia’s Omar Jasika, the world number nine noticed that the ball girl was in distress and instantly came to her aid.
Walking to her, the Frenchman realised she needed medical assistance. The 30-year-old linked arms with the young girl, keeping her stable as he helped her off the court.
In a post- match interview, Jo humbly denied he did anything special.
Stopping his match, Jo instantly came to the aid of the injured girl.
“At the start I thought she was normal … but after the second time I saw she was in trouble and I went to help her to get out because she was in a bad state,” he said.
“I didn’t know it was going to (generate headlines). It was just normal. She was in trouble. Her eyes were a little bit teary. So it was just normal to help her to go out of the stadium and I hope she’s doing well now.
Adding, “I asked the umpire during the game if everything is OK. I will double-check if she is OK.”
It comes to no surprise that the act caught the attention of fans worldwide, praising him for his attitude.
Fans took to Twitter to show their support for Jo.
Jo went on to smash the game winning 7-5 6-1 6-4 in just 103 minutes.
Winning further hearts among local tennis fans, the Frenchman has declared he was impressed with his Aussie opponent’s budding talent.
“At the start he played really well and got on top of me … he’s got a different game than older players,” he said.
“He’s very talented.”
