The unexpected discovery of deleted scenes from the cult sitcom will excite every Friendsโ fan โ and letโs face it, who isnโt?
The scene, which was originally supposed to air in the season eight episode The One Where Rachel Tells Ross, was removed.
The showโs producers decided to axe the scene, because it would have aired shortly after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, despite it being filmed months in advance.
In the footage newlyweds Monica and Chandler, played by Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry, are at the airport about to board a plane when Chandler makes a joke about explosive devices.
Before the clip is shown an opening slate reveals, โThe story involved Chandler joking with security at an airport and was to air two weeks after the events of September 11 2001.โ
It continued: โIn light of this, we decided to replace the original story.โ
Chandler, who is famous for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, finds a sign at airport security that reads: โFederal law prohibits any joking regarding aircraft high-jacking or bombing.โ
He then tells a security agent, โYou donโt have to worry about me, maโam, I take my bombs very seriously,โ โ he is immediately detained.
The open slate top the scene clarifies: โAs part of the history of the show, we hope that the scenes can now be viewed in the spirit which they were originally intended.โ
