A text exchange between a soon-to-be mother and a prospective birth photographer has gone viral… for all the wrong reasons.
Sharing a screenshot of the conversation she shared with the unidentified photographer, it’s clear the prospective hire lacked a basic understanding of customer service, let alone the complexities of birth and motherhood.
After ensuring that there would be no uncertainty around the time and place of the baby’s arrival due to a planned caesarean, the photographer explained that she wanted no part of the birth.
“A surgery isn’t birth, my dear,” the photographer texted.
“You are having a surgery to remove your baby from your abdomen. That is not birth no matter how you swing it and I for one don’t want to be there to take pictures of it.”
“This motherhood job is hard, if I were you I would think twice about starting such a job by cutting corners so early in the game.If you decide to give motherhood a go from the get, let me know and we can schedule your session.”

While some mothers do request the procedure – which, of course, is their choice – the unnamed woman says that she didn’t “opt” for the surgery. After all, a cesarean delivery is more often than not scheduled for a whole host of valid and medically-necessary reasons, including the baby’s positioning and problems with the placenta.
Unsurprisingly, the text exchange hasn’t been well received, with one social media user writing, “Makes sense. I mean, my twins aren’t “real” twins because they are fraternal… and I took the easy way out with a non-birthing surgery…..AND I didn’t breastfeed!! My children doubt their own existence.”
While another penned, “Yeah because cutting through skin, fat, muscle, and organs is cutting corners.”
We sincerely hope that this mum-to-be has since found a birth photographer that understands a thing or two about, you know… birth.
