The former President of the United States made it clear this week that the White House is the last thing on his mind…
Taking a well-deserved break after eight years in office, Obama and his wife Michelle, travelled to Virgin founder Richard Branson’s Necker Island.
The private island, known as an idyllic and remote tropical escape, is tucked away in the British Virgin Islands.
In footage captured by the billionaire business tycoon, Obama can be seen mucking about with his new-found friend as they test their water sports acumen.
Unsurprisingly, Obama scores first place in the pair’s one-on-one kitesurfing challenge.

As Branson reveals in a blog post, Hawaii-raised Obama was prevented from surfing by his security detail during his time in office.
He writes, “One of the first stories Barack told me when he and Michelle arrived on Moskito Island was how, just before he became President, he had been surfing on a dangerous break in Hawaii.”
“When he came in from an exhilarating session, the new head of his security team turned to him and said:
‘This will be the last time you surf for eight years.’”
“For the next eight years he didn’t have the chance to surf, enjoy watersports or do many of the things he loved.”
And in a series of photos, captured by the brillant photographer Jack Brockway, it’s clear Obama is wasting no time in picking up this particular passion now that he’s out of office!
The photos, which show Obama well-rested and relaxed as he beams from ear-to-ear, have set the internet ablaze with social media unleashing a pandora’s box of hilarious memes, comments and tributes.
However, there seems to be a consistent thread amongst the social media outpouring, with one user succinctly describing the photos as Obama “clearly winning the breakup.”
But the former President isn’t the only Obama making headlines this week.
Lena Dunham took some time to praise Obama’s 18-year-old daughter, Malia, as she was interviewed by Howard Stern about the final season of her hit TV drama.
“She’s an angel,” said Dunham who met the young Obama as she interned on the set of Girls.
Adding, “She was interested and she was interning at HBO and they thought what if she comes a couple days a week to the set of girls.”
The 30-year-old author and actress went on to say, “She is so smart. I once asked her, ‘What’s your favorite movie?’ She was like, ‘Do you want me to list it by favorite, director, writer, or cinematographer.’ I was like, ‘You’re smarter than me, let’s just be done with this topic.’”
Speaking of the entire Obama family, the vocal feminist and activist added, “They’re such a, when you see that family together they’re not performative. Like so many public families, even families of movie stars, are always performing their bond, and that family you can just tell they love each other and respect each other and have appropriate family reactions.”
