The incredible feat was captured on a film entitled Pipe Dream released by Robbie’s sponsor DC Shoes.
In the epic video the surfer can be seen riding on a motorbike, that had been modified with skis, whi he takes into the water at a rapid pace.
Soon enough a giant wave develops on the Tahitian beach and Robbie catches it like a seasoned pro.
The daredevil told Surfer Magazinethat he got the idea while watching his wife wakeboard, “something clicked in my head. I fantasised putting skis on a bike and riding on water.”
He added: “It was a stupid vision at the time, but I kept toying with it, playing with designs and concepts, and eventually it became a reality.”
Robbie attributed his confidence for tackling to the wave to his upbringing on the beaches south of Sydney.
“I’ve surfed since I was 8 years old. I’ve been a surfer for like 26 years. If I wasn’t a surfer growing up there’s no way I would have ever even imagined this, not to mention have had the knowledge of how to read the wave,” he explained.
Before revealing: “I was only comfortable in this scenario because I’ve spent the majority of my life dropping in on waves. If I hadn’t been a surfer at heart, I couldn’t have pulled it off.”
