Leaping off the shelves: Allen’s Lollies are getting rid of some favourites!

They taste like your childhood and smell like happiness, but now Australian confectionery legends Allen’s are abolishing some of your favourite treats.
Allen's Lollies

It is with great difficulty we announce some iconic treats are either getting the axe from Allen’s or shrinking in size.

And the first victims of the re-shuffle are beloved Spearmint Leaves and Green Frogs, who are being completely nixed from their line.

Yep, it’s time to say goodbye to these little beauties. Spearmint Leaves will no longer have a place in your Nanna’s lollie jar and Green Frogs are hopping their way out of your life.

While Killer Pythons will no longer be killer as they slither down to half their size.

An Allen’s spokesman explained the tragedy, “we have streamlined the portfolio, deleting Spearmint Leaves and Green Frogs because they weren’t popular and sales had been slowing dropping off over time. We were selling one Green Frog to every 10 Red Frogs.”

They’ve also done away with blue-coloured Snakes in an effort to wipe out artificial colours and flavours.

Despite rumours that Sherbies were being discontinued, cue the communal office cry here at Woman’s Day HQ, Allen’s calmed our fears by hitting back at the reports.

“A lot of the things in the paper today are not true – we’re still keeping Oddfellows and Sherbies,” a spokesperson explained.

“Over the last 10 years, we’ve seen a few of the older ones go. Jelly Tots went about 10 years ago, Violet Crumble bags went about five years ago, but that tends to happen,” the statement continued.

Perhaps the drop in sales is due to Australia’s obsession with health foods, if that’s the case then we’ll be staring at our kale salad in absolute disdain this afternoon before sneaking out to the shops to bulk buy Green Frogs and Spearmint leaves. RIP you delicious devils, it’s been real.
