Where the celebs spend Christmas

From snowy Aspen resorts to hiking in the Blue Mountains, and everything in between.

They’ve got private jets and addresses all over the world, so where do our favourite celebrities choose to spend their Christmas holidays?

Between gorgeous English countrysides, balmy Caribbean beach breaks and the occasional homegrown Aussie destination, these stars really know where to hang their stockings.

Oprah

She may be a multi-million dollar media mogul, but Oprah still loves a cosy family Christmas just like us.

The chat show host has a handful of beautiful properties across the U.S., including this gorgeous Maui getaway, her top choice for the festive season.

Oprah purchased a huge package of land in the up-country area of the Hawaiian island a few years ago, and it is the perfect combination of beach-front fun and lush greenery.

She still sticks to a traditional Christmas though, with a roast dinner with friends and family and a perfectly decorated tree.

Oprah’s beautiful Maui home appears at the end of the rainbow; Maui is the second largest of the Hawaiian islands and is a breathtaking part of the world to spend Christmas. Oprah’s closest friends and family celebrate there with her.

The Beckhams

David Beckham’s football career has taken his family all over the world, and the Beckhams now own property in Dubai, California and the South of France.

But nothing means Christmas more to David and Victoria than a good old English Christmas.

“Even when we were in LA or Madrid, we would always come back to the UK to spend Christmas here,” he says

“This country comes alive during this time and this period is about sharing with loved ones.”

And so David and Victoria celebrate the 25th of December with both of their families, along with kids Brooklyn (16), Romeo (13), Cruz (10) and Harper (4) in London- which means taking in shows at the West End, and even sledding down Primrose Hill when the weather permits it.

They still get their winter sun though, normally jetting off somewhere exotic like the Maldives to ring in the New Year.

The Beckhams love spending Christmas in wintry London, spending the day with both sets of families and catching up with close friends Gordon and Tana Ramsay, before jetting off for a luxury break in the Maldives.

James Packer

James Packer has a new love who just happens to be known as the Queen of Christmas.

Mariah Carey traditionally spends Christmas in Aspen every year, and now it has a special connection for Packer too; it’s reportedly where the new couple met two Christmases ago.

The Crown Resorts boss owns a villa in the Colorado ski resort, and the two were introduced through a mutual friend, although their relationship was purely platonic until earlier this year.

It’s a winter playground for the rich and famous, with plenty of high-end boutiques and world-class restaurants where Packer can spoil Carey.

And with all those snowy covered lanes and reindeer-led sleigh rides, it has got to be one of the most romantic places to spend the Christmas period!

Aspen, Colorado, is a winter wonderland at Christmas, with snowy walks, twinkling lights and reindeer-led sleigh rides.

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen doesn’t get too far away from the sunshine, swapping her usual LA life for a slightly more luxurious version at Christmas.

The talk show host is a big fan of St. Barts, a popular celeb haunt in the Caribbean, and travels there most years to spend the festive season.

Ellen and wife Portia de Rossi like to shop up a storm at some of the exclusive, high-end stores St. Barts is home to, like Louis Vuitton, before relaxing on the white sandy beaches.

It’s the perfect Christmas escape for the couple, although there’s not a sprig of mistletoe in sight.

Ellen and wife Portia de Rossi love spending their Christmas in sunny St. Barths (after sending out their annual cheeky Christmas card), no doubt relaxing in one of these luxury villas overlooking the beach. The Caribbean island is a popular getaway for the rich and famous, and the complete opposite to a “traditional” Christmas.

Karl Stefanovic

The cheeky Today show host likes to mix up his Christmas destinations; you’re just as likely to find him jetting off to a foreign destination as to catch him with his extended family in North Queensland.

Stefanovic, along with his wife Cassandra and kids River, Jackson and Ava, loves returning to his family home in Cairns for the holidays, where he reunites with his mum and siblings for home-cooked Christmas dinner.

He’s a proud Queenslander, too, sharing plenty of snaps of the gorgeous coastlines and sunsets he enjoys back home.

He does squeeze trips away in his busy schedule though, enjoying Christmases stateside in the past.

Karl loves returning to his native Cairns for the Christmas break, often posting stunning snaps of his kids enjoying the local beaches. He does love an American holiday though, once flying straight to LA from his hosting gig at Carols by Candlelight in Melbourne to spend Christmas with his family.

Delta Goodrem

Another star who doesn’t mind a Christmas stateside is Delta Goodrem, although she may be sticking closer to home this year.

Last year Goodrem celebrated the festive season with friends and family in Los Angeles, but her run as Grizabella in Cats will be keeping the singer in Australia this time round.

The Sydney-sider is very fond of her hometown, and will no doubt be looking to take a few more stunning shots of her beautiful surrounds.

Delta often shares breathtaking snaps when she returns to Sydney, and it’ll be no different this Christmas. The singer often takes in a hike while she is home too, and loves the view from the Blue Mountains.

Judi Dench

Dame Judi Dench escapes Hollywood for a little slice of heaven whenever she can.

“I live in a village on the border of Kent and Sussex and Surrey, in an old house,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

“My daughter and grandson are there quite a lot. Otherwise it’s me and a dog and two cats- it might be three, I don’t know, one of my cats is very sick at the moment- and a very lively goldfish.”

Look at those views! Sunshine or snow, Dench’s Christmases must be idyllic!

Dench’s gorgeous English countryside home is the perfect wintry getaway for a traditional, English Christmas.
