School teacher Melanie Goldsmith had no idea when she settled down to read a storybook to her class that it would completely change her life.
The unassuming children’s book was actually written and illustrated by her soon-to-be fiancé Eric Hernandez, and detailed their five-year relationship up until the moment he proposed.
But Melanie didn’t have a clue.
“I wanted to propose to Melanie in the most creative way possible,” Eric said on the couples’ wedding website.
“I decided to adapt the story of our relationship into a children’s storybook and for several months I worked on writing, illustrating, and formatting that book.”
Melanie and Eric met on eHarmony, and both new instantly they had met someone really special.
“Eric was the most amazing person I had ever met,” Melanie said on their website, while Eric commented “I knew that our meeting was going to lead to something special.”
When the book was ready, he coordinated with other teachers at Melanie’s school to get her to read the book out loud, all the while Eric was waiting in an adjoining room for the perfect time to surprise her with the ring.
As Melanie read further and further into the story, she started to realise that it was actually her own love story she was reading, and emotions got the better of her.
“She did catch on a little earlier than expected,” Eric told Inside Edition. “As soon as she saw the first page, she started putting together what was going on.”
Another teacher stepped in to finish off the epic tale of love, and Eric walked in and proposed.
“Of course the story ultimately ended with me asking if she would marry me, and most fortunately she said yes,” Eric posted on their wedding website.
According to their website, Melanie and Eric are set to wed next weekend, July 2, 2017, and we wish the sweet couple all the best!
