In what can only be described as a bold move, one mother-of-the-groom decided to make her sonโs big day, her big day too. At least, thatโs what some people on the internet have accused her of, while others believe her outfit choice was completely appropriate for such an affair.
The dress in question was a full-length, glittering sequin gown by designer Gina Bacconi.

After leaving a review for the dress on the John Lewis website stating how fantastic the dress was for the New York [wedding](https://www.nowtolove.com.au/lifestyle/weddings/duchess-catherine-wedding-outfits-37840|target=โ_blankโ, the mother-of-the-groom suddenly found herself at the centre of a heated discussion on Mumsnet.
User LardLizard, an eagle-eyed shopper who first noticed the review, kicked off the conversation with this statement: โJust been looking at this dress, and I know this is mean but read the review and someone bought it for her sonโs wedding!โ
What came next was a barrage of comments swaying from the downright appalledโฆ
โIt looks like bloody wedding dress. Of course itโs completely unsuitable,โ wrote one user.
To the not convincedโฆ
โI think itโs lovely but itโs definitely a questionable choice for Mother of the Groom.โ
I think itโs a little ostentatious.โ
To the โwhatโs the problem?โ commentatorsโฆ
โAbsolutely fine for mother of the groom.โ.
โLovely dress, exactly the kind of thing close family wear to American weddings,โ added another user.
โI canโt see the problem to be honest. Itโs not white and certainly not like a wedding dress at all. More like a cocktail dress which would be okay to wear at a wedding.โ
Many pointed out the venue of the wedding, the time of day and even what the bridesmaids were wearing would all have to be known before a judgement call could be made as to whether it was an appropriate choice or not.
Regardless of the overwhelming number of comments being in favour of the dress, letโs still hope the mother-of-the-groom hasnโt been witness to the debate.
