Turia Pitt has led quite an eventful life, but now, one year after the birth of her adorable son Hakavai, she is getting back to her athletic roots.
The former Iron Woman is making her grand return to competitive events at the iconic Kathmandu Coast to Coast as the adventure company’s ambassador and is encouraging women and fellow mums to get out of their comfort zone.
“I’m stoked to be ambassador for Kathmandu’s Coast to Coast. Having a goal like this to work towards is really important, and I want other females and mums, and all Australians for that matter, to get to enjoy the confidence and resilience boosts that come from challenging yourself in new ways,” Turia says.
Most of us would flinch at the thought of running 30.5km, but Turia isn’t like most of us.
In 2011, the mining engineer and author suffered burns of up to 65 per cent of her body when she was trapped in a grassfire while competing in an ultramarathon in the Kimberley region of WA. And though doctors told her she would never run again, Turia didn’t let that stop her. Since then, she has not only defied the health professionals, she’s also competed in Ironman competitions and shown that she can handle the toughest situations.

But ever since she and her partner Michael Hoskin welcomed their little boy Hakavai to the world in December 2017, there have been some changes to her fitness routine.
Speaking to Lisa Wilkinson on The Sunday Project, motivational speaker Turia confessed that there have been changes to her lifestyle now that she’s a mum.
“People are always asking me what I’m training for right now and I always thought that after I’d had a baby I’d jump back into it, but that’s one of the last things I want to do right now. My whole world has been turned upside down.
“Do I want to go for a five-hour run away from my baby? No, I’d rather spend some time with him,” she said.

Turia and Michael welcomed Hakavai Hoskin in December 2017 and during her pregnancy, Turia revealed exclusively to The Weekly one quality she wants to see in her son.
“I want my son to be resilient,” she told us. “I think that’s the most important thing,” she said.
If he’s anything like his mum, we have no doubt about it whatsoever.
