A very rude and disrespectful tourist has caused outrage and commotion after she took off her glove and threw it at the Queen’s guard.
This strange and unprovoked attack was watched on by other tourists, at the popular hot spot the Tower of London.
Going by the video, the woman’s aim was to get the guard to move and pick up her glove and hand it back, breaking protocol.
“It’s a standoff. Who’s going to get the glove first?” narrates an unidentified man in the video, who is likely filming the event unfold.
The woman is quickly shamed by bystanders, and is then confronted by a Beefeater guard who asks: “Excuse me guys, did you just throw your glove over to the soldier?”
(For those unaware, Beefeaters are ceremonial guardians of the Tower of London, and are charged with looking after the British crown jewels, giving tours and site information.)
Unfortunately, the woman’s response can’t be heard.
The guard continues: “Why would you do that? The army is here to protect the crown jewels, they’re not here for the public to make fun of.”
“He is a soldier, he serves his country and he deserves to be treated with a little bit of respect. Throwing your gloves at him isn’t going to work, is it really?”
The Beefeater guard then climbs over the railing and collects the glove.
The woman and her friend swiftly pick up their bags and leave after the encounter, gently escorted away by another Beefeater guard.
Throughout the entire exchange, the Tower guard is unamused and unmoving; without the slightest hint that he was ever going to pick up the glove. Now that’s what you call professionalism.
