It’s time to style yourself for summer, which means swimwear, a summery frock and the right sunglasses.
Westfiled stylist Donny Galella talks us through what you need in your wardrobe this summer and how to get value out of each piece.
What are the top trends this season?
In short, tribal prints, floral and pastels. Donny says each has been a stand-out on the international runways and they are versatile enough for real women to wear whatever their shape, size, personality or budget.
“The celebs are loving these trends! If I had to choose one key piece from each I couldn’t go past the cute A-line tribal print dress from Cue (a Westfield exclusive), a floral print blazer or blouse from Sheike and a pair of pastel jeans from Cotton On. All are on trend, on budget,” he said.
What are the top five accessories to update your wardrobe this season?
A cute pair of cat-eye style sunglasses such the Vogue sunglasses by Sunglass Hut, a Westfield exclusive.
A tribal inspired statement necklace. Diva and Accessorize have great selections.
A pair of statement heels – try Wittner or Payless Shoes for an on-trend range for less.
A wide brim floppy hat – something you can wear with your cossie or dress up with a summery frock.
A floral or tribal print scarf is a great way to add that extra something to your look and keep you on trend.
What are your top tips for choosing the right swimwear?
Donny says the most important thing to think about when buying swimwear is to look for a style that suits your shape.
“If you’re self-conscious about your lower half then draw attention to the top half,” he says.
“Opt for a black bikini bottom and a bright coloured or print bikini top, this will ensure your upper body is the focus.”
Donny also suggests that those women concerned about their tummy should choose a one-piece with ruching or gathering across the mid-section.
What are the best season buys for a stay-at-home mum versus working mum to update their wardrobe this season?
Stay-at-home mum
A cute summery dress from Just Jeans or Jeanswest. Add some flats from Rubi Shoes and you will live in this dress all summer.
A pair of pastel coloured jeans.
A versatile print top. Look for a top with capped sleeves and made from a comfy stretch fabric.
Working mum
A structured dress from Cue or Portmans. Wear it for work with a blazer or wear with heels for a night-time outfit.
A pastel blazer which can be worn nine to five and with jeans on the weekend.
A statement bag.
What are your tips for women looking to update their look on a budget?
Donny says it is possible to be on-trend on a budget.
“There are so many brands and retailers offering the latest looks for less – it’s just knowing where to start,” he says.
“No matter your spend, anyone can participate in the free Westfield Style Workshops and 20-minute Style Sessions which have a focus on dressing for your shape, personality, complexion and budget.”
