You can turn your loved one’s ashes into a diamond

A wearable tribute and a constant reminder that your loved one is always with you.

If you’ve talked to your loved ones about cremation but want a memorial that’s a bit more, well, practical, perhaps turning your loved one’s ashes into a beautiful cremation diamond is the answer.

You could scatter your relative’s ashes at their favorite park or even turn them into a tree, but a diamond would be a wearable tribute and a constant reminder that this person is always with you.

Carbon is an atomic element that’s abundant in the body, and diamonds are made from crystallized carbon.

Using advanced techniques, scientists can grow diamonds in labs , so it only follows that they’re now able to turn ashes into sparklers.

Several companies sell these “memorial diamonds,” but they’ll cost you a pretty penny.

Algordanza, a Swiss company, begins pricing at 4,480 euros, which is about $5,300. But if you consider the cost of a funeral these days, that $5,300 could be roughly what you would pay for a nice casket and embalming. If a parent dies and there are multiple children, you even have the option of commissioning multiple smaller diamonds from the same set of ashes.

“It allows someone to keep their loved one with them forever,” Algordanza spokeswoman Christina Martoia told Business Insider. “We’re bringing joy out of something that is, for a lot of people, a lot of pain.”

Another company specializing in “memorial diamonds,” LifeGem, is located in Elk Grove Village, IL. LifeGem also transforms “cremains” into diamonds, but the company gives customers the option to send in hair as well. Their services also extend to pet remains, so pet owners cam remember their beloved fur baby after he or she crosses the rainbow bridge.

Losing a loved one is never easy, but a tribute — even a wearable one — can help progress the grieving process.
