The 37 year-old Utah women has caught the bouquet 46 times at weddings over the years and has entered herself into the Guinness Book of World Records. It wasn’t her end-game to hold the record, but she was prompted to put herself forward after discovering that the current bouquet toss record holder has a measly 15 bouquets to her name.
James, a fun loving, self-described competitive person, is enjoying herself thoroughly.
“At every wedding I get invited to, I just have to have that bouquet,” the former wedding planner and now fitness trainer (ideal conditioning for her a would-be bouquet toss world record holder, yes?) told People, “I plot out my strategy as soon as I get there.”
For James, this strategy involves casing the joint – and a whole lot of hustle.
“Position, position, position,” she told People, “You have to be in the front if you want the best chance of catching the bouquet. Because usually when the bride tosses it, she throws it straight up and it will hit a ceiling or a chandelier then go straight down.”
However the whole dumb thing about the person catching the bouquet being the next to get hitched? Not a thing. James is still single.
“I’ve pretty much crushed that ‘next-to-be-married’ myth,” she tells PEOPLE. “I’ve had boyfriends, sure. But I’m liking the single life. Besides, if I were married, I’d have to give up my favorite sport.”
And who would to stop the bouquet slayers world domination?
