Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year, or the worst day for presents – depending on who you ask. But these 10 gifts are a foolproof way for your love to tell you they really care.
1. A sleep in
Mums, picture this: the blinds are down, you haven’t set your alarm, your diary is empty for the day and for one blissful morning you get a sleep in. Sure the kids are tormenting hubby in the kitchen, but it’s all worth it when you get to eat the breakfast they’re making for when you finally decide to get up.
2. A box set of Outlander
We know waiting for season 3 of Outlander is tough, but why not relive the romance and history with the first two seasons on DVD? Looking at Sam Heughan isn’t a hard task either…
3. A box set of Poldark
If Outlander isn’t your thing, or you’ve seen it too many times, maybe Poldark should be your next obsession? Following Captain Ross Poldark as he tries to reclaim his family’s business in the Cornish countryside, the story treads a similar path to Outlander but features fewer Scottish locations but equal shirtless-ness.
4. Not a cliche dozen red roses
Flowers, but only before or after the big day. “Just because” flowers are sweeter and a better way to say I’m thinking about you compared to a bunch sent on the most obvious day of the year.
5. A non-cheesy card
Forget Hallmark, a homemade card is where it’s at this year. If your partner has a pen and paper, they have a card. Drawings encouraged but not compulsory. They should try and add a photo of you two together, or even write a poem for bonus points. Doesn’t have to be good, it’s the effort that counts.
6. More sex
A study by US fertility app Kindara found 34 per cent of the 1000 women aged 18-50 surveyed said they want sex more than anything else this Valentine’s Day.
7. A box of sweet treats
Screw chocolate, a box of doughnuts is the sweetest gift a man can give. Extra points if he handpicks the flavours he knows you actually like.
8. More wine
If you love vino, then a wine subscription membership if perfect. Vinomofo handpicks wines to suit your tastes, and then delivers them straight to your door. You can either have each wine individually selected by your personal wine broker or you can choose what you want in a case. Or, if you prefer some added mystery, Secret Bottle will send you six different wines every month, so you get a taste of all the different wine regions in Australia.
9. A massage with a twist (no, not like that)
No-one has time to spend hours at the spa (if you do, lucky you!) which is why an at-home massage is perfect for the busy women among us (so, basically all of us). Not only will they come to your home (or hotel room) they’ll come after hours, saving you valuable time. They bring everything they need, so all you need to worry about is Swedish or Remedial?
10. A gift card that isn’t from Westfield
If you haven’t yet subscribed to the concept of TV, movies and music on demand, say hello to your new best friend. With no lock-in contracts, and enough variety to satisfy every family member, a Netflix, Stan or Spotify account is a winner in anyone’s book.
