Forget blondes, it seems lesbians are the ones having the most fun, according to a new study that’s found gay women have more orgasms than women who identified as straight or bisexual.
The study, Variation in Orgasm Occurrence by Sexual Orientation in a Sample of U.S. Singles, was conducted by Indiana University, Emory University, and Rutgers University and was published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine.
The study surveyed 2,850 – 1,497 men and 1,353 women – who had experienced sexual activity in the past 12 months.
The participants were and asked to indicate their self-identified sexual orientation and what percentage of the time they experience an orgasm when having sex with a familiar partner.
Largely men recorded a higher rate of orgasm than women did – 85 per cent compared to 63 per cent – and while sexual orientation wasn’t a significant factor in men’s orgasm frequency it was a weighty factor for the female experience.
Women who identified as lesbian women reported experiencing orgasm 75 per cent of the time compared to 61 per cent for straight women and just 58 per cent for bisexual females.
So are women just more skilled in the bedroom?
On the babsis of previous research, the study’s authors theorise that perhaps one reason for the high climax rate in female-female sex is that lesbian sex lasts longer or that the lovers are more acquainted with their partner’s anatomy.
“One possible explanation is that… lesbian women are more comfortable and familiar with the female body and thus, on average, are better able to induce orgasm in their female partners,” the study noted.
