The tool is specifically designed to โ€œimprove the experienceโ€ โ€“ or lessen the pain โ€“ of a dead relationship.

Instead of having to unfriend somebody, you can now opt to โ€œsee less ofโ€ their pictures and updates.

Facebook will stop posting picture of your ex in your timeline, too.

The new tool also enables you to hide your status updates from your ex, so heโ€™ll see less of you.

โ€œStarting today, we are testing tools to help people manage how they interact with their former partners on Facebook after a relationship has ended,โ€ the company said.

โ€œWhen people change their relationship status to indicate they are no longer in a relationship, they will be prompted to try these tools.โ€

Facebook hopes the new tools will help people โ€œwho may be going through difficult moments in their livesโ€.

โ€œWe hope these tools will help people end relationships on Facebook with greater ease, comfort and sense of control,โ€ the company said.
