In his book, How Men Age: What Evolution Reveals About Male Health And Mortality, author and biological philanthropist Richard G. Bribiescas raises an interesting talking point: that pudgy men are not only deemed better looking by women, but they also will live longer than their fit-father counterparts.
Bribiescas asserts that because a man’s testosterone levels can decrease after becoming a father, this makes it harder for him to build muscle. In turn, this can, unexpectedly, strengthen their immune systems and prolong their lives.
Bribiescas also speaks out against the “macho” stereotype that some men, especially as they get older, try to fit in to, stating that “the Hollywood image of the swaggering, dashing man dispatching bad guys and carrying the day conjures up a perception of indestructibility.”
Not only that, but this loss of muscle and, consequentially, influx of fat can also give men more of an incentive to stay at home with their kids rather than seek out other women.
“This change in body composition not only causes men to shop for more comfortable trousers but also facilitates increased survivorship and, hypothetically, a hormonal milieu that would more effectively promote and support paternal investment,” he says.
It’s been long reported that men with a little more around their middles have the potential to live longer, however, this doesn’t mean that all exercise and diet sensibilities can be tossed out the window.
Leading a healthy lifestyle, including a good-for-you diet and regular exericse can stave off things like numerous cancers and heart disease. So, if you and your wants-a-Dad-Bod husband want to change your diet, it is always recommended that you talk to your GP first.
