There are probably a million things on Princess Eugenie’s list ahead of her royal wedding to Jack Brooksbank in October, but the bride-to-be has still found time to spread an important message.

In a rare interview with podcast Global GoalsCast, Eugenie spoke candidly about modern day slavery and how a trip to India inspired her to fight against it through the initiative Antislavery Collective.

Eugenie and long-time pal Julie de Boinville talked about visiting Calcutta in 2013 where they met a woman who started the Women’s Interlink Foundation, which works to get trafficked females off the streets and teaches them skills such as fabric design and creating clothing.

“Jules and I, that was the first time we ever really saw what modern slavery was and human trafficking and what really that is in the modern age, ” Eugenie said.

Following the trip, the Princess realised slavery was an issue all over the world, so she decided to do something about it. She and de Boinville helped to set up the Key to Freedom fashion label which has been successfully introduced into stores like Topshop.

Eugenie also spoke about a moving encounter with a trafficking victim she met. The young girl was trafficked by her next door neighbour in Manchester to a gang who did “horrific” things to her.

“And what’s amazing about this story and what has stayed with Jules and I, is that she is the most incredible 21-year-old girl you will ever meet,” Eugenie said.

“She walked in and smiled and told her story with such courage and conviction, and sat there and just said that she wants to fight with us and keep us going.”

Eugenie has been dedicated to charity work throughout the years, much like her mother Sarah Ferguson. In July, Eugenie shared a touching post to Instagram about the work she was doing for children in crisis.

She wrote: “My wonderful mother @sarahferguson15 has merged her charity @childrenincrisis with @streetchilduk . Together they will strive to provide children with education and ensure that every child has the chance to go to school and learn. So happy to see charities coming together for a common goal!”
