We love a good puzzle or riddle, but this new dog optical illusion really left us scratching our heads. Judging by the internet’s reaction to the image, we weren’t the only ones.

The photo, posted on Reddit by user chadwalk, is titled “Optical Illusion Dog” — and we couldn’t have captioned it better ourselves. At first glance, it’s really hard to tell what you’re looking at in this photo — besides a cropped face of one typical-looking dog in the front and another dog looking, well, not so typical in the back.

So what’s the story here? Is this poor dog injured and in need of medical attention? Is he or she simply born with a face that looks very different from other dogs? Or is this pup actually A-OK and just fooling us all with a strange camera angle?

Reddit was baffled when it came to figuring out what the issue was here — if there was an issue at all.

One user wrote, “I know, I’m trying to see the illusion, but I can’t.”

Another wrote, “My brain struggled to make sense of this for a least ten seconds.”

Sound like you?

You’ll be happy to know that this pooch is indeed very much OK. All he’s really doing is tilting his head. One user very helpfully drew a diagram pointing it out for the rest of us still having trouble figuring it out. See?

Phew. As far as this illusion goes, we think one commentator summed it up perfectly: “I just spent two minutes spinning my phone around trying to see this dog after already coming to terms about how great the owners are for adopting this poor dog, while taking solace in the fact that he doesn’t know he’s different, only to find out he’s OK after all. What a roller coaster!”

A roller coaster indeed.

We’d just like to add that we’re also wondering whether there’s two dogs in that photo or if there’s actually three. Maybe this is yet another mystery for the internet to solve?
