Jodie Shaw is taking a stand – a stand for all women who have given birth to their babies via C-section.
This comes after the now-mum-of-two gave birth to her second child, only to receive criticism from people who brandished her as taking the “easy option”, insinuating that “giving birth by caesarean means that you didn’t give birth”.
And it’s fair to say that Jodie is beyond frustrated.
Jodie took to Birth Without Fear’s Facebook page to tell her story as well as post a picture of her painful-looking C-section scar.
She wrote: “I obviously can’t change people’s views but I’ve decided to post this picture to see if it may make people understand that despite what our birth plans might say.”
“Sometimes we don’t get a choice. I didn’t get a choice.”
Jodie had “a fibroid the size of a melon” sitting on her cervix, as well as a low-lying placenta, which means she is left with “no ordinary C-section scar”.
“So next time you judge someone for not doing what you consider to be “giving birth” please take a minute to think about why they may have had to deliver that way,” she continued.
“This scar saved me from losing a life threatening amount of blood and meant my baby was brought into this world as she should be.”
We’re with you, Jodie. We’re with you.
