A woman has allegedly disguised herself as a nurse to steal a newborn baby after suffering a miscarriage.
The woman, identified as Zhao Juan from eastern China, is reported to have suffered a miscarriage in May but continued to fake her pregnancy and on her ‘due-date’ plotted to kidnap a newborn, reports the South China Morning Post.
Supposedly dressed as a nurse, Juan managed to sneak into a hospital in Huaian in Jiangsu province last month where she took a baby boy while his mother was asleep.
According to reports Juan brought the child home and then called an ambulance – claiming she had delivered the child at home.
But the woman’s plan quickly fell apart when she was taken to the same hospital where she took the child.
The abducted boy’s mother had already reported him missing to police and doctors became suspicious of Juan when checkups revealed she had not just given birth.
DNA tests confirmed the child was not hers and police arrested Juan when they viewed surveillance video taken at the hospital.
