We all know that childbirth is no walk in the park. Labour pains are challenging to say the least and there’s many suggested natural ways to deal with the intense pains that contractions bring.
As women deal with pre-labour they can be encouraged to try yoga positions, a warm bath or shower, meditation, aromatherapy, and even gentle walking to soothe and distract the mind from the intensity of those contractions.
Gone are the days of women labouring in bed for hours. Now we are encouraged to remain active and use movement to help with the pain.
One U.S. woman in the early stages of labour decided to take this advice to the next level. Simply walking the corridors of the labour ward wasn’t enough for this mum-to-be. She decided to distract herself during her contractions through dance. Yes, that’s right. Dance.
Watch as she rhythmically moves her hips and sways her body and arms as she dances “The Tootsie” while her contraction passes.
She’s able to smile and laugh as she moves too, so maybe there’s some merit in her method!
While dancing during labour might not be for everyone (did someone say, ‘Pass me the gas?!’) it’s important to remember that every woman’s labour and body is different. So what works for one mumma, won’t work for another.
