Children across the U.S. are starting back at school this week after their long summer break, and young kindergarten children are beginning school for the very first time.
On a day that’s filled with emotion and apprehension for both parents and children, one reporter met families at the school gate to see how they were coping with the big day.
Courtney Friel from KT-LA news chatted to students and their parents at City Terrace Elementary School in East Los Angeles but got a reaction that she was not expecting from one well-dressed, little kindy boy.
As Friel bent down and asked four-year-old Andrew Macias if he would miss his mum on his first day in kindergarten, the brave – and adorable – little boy quickly replied, ‘no’.
But his bold answer was quickly followed by nervous laughter that then spilled into tears and a frown as the little guy realised he’d be away from his mum for the day.
His understandable emotional reaction tugs at the heart-strings of parents who know the feeling too well of having to part ways with their child for the first time.
We hope little Andrew had a happy day with his new kindergarten class, despite the emotional start. Take a look at the sweet video below!
