Two young children were jumping on a bed of their Bankstown home on Sunday morning when a young girl, 5, fell from a window. Her brother, 3, followed closely behind her.

The only protection for the two siblings came in the form of a thin flyscreen sheet fitted to the window.

After being rushed to The Children’s Hospital in Westmead, it is being reported that she has sustained life-threatening injuries after hitting the concrete pavement on the South Terrace of the apartment block.

The young boy only suffered minor injuries and is in a stable condition.

According to neighbours who spoke to The Daily Telegraph said that the two children had just moved to Australia with their family from Jordan a month earlier.

“It was a hot day, many people had their windows open,” another neighbour explains.

Shockingly, Kidsafe NSW executive officer Christine Erskine says that, across Australia, 50 children fall out of windows.

“We’re also living in a more dense community that (has) more and more high rises,” she tells The Daily Telegraph. We need to be ahead of our game.”
