A Queensland mother has been left distraught after her son was left with second degree burns after a day at daycare.
Sophie Zhang picked her son, Leon, up from daycare in Brisbane late last month and discovered second degree burns down his chest and neck.
After questioning staff about how it happened, and why she was not informed for over two hours staff reportedly told Zhang that Leon was burned after he drank water from a sippy cup.
“I still don’t understand how he got access to hot water, how did he get burnt?” she told 7News.
Staff offered no explanation as to why a 15-month-old baby was given hot water, or why he was not supervised or treated once burnt.
Police investigated the incident for a week, but decided not to bring charges against the daycare, the Little Tots Child Care Centre in Calamvale, Queensland, putting the incident down to an accident.
However, the Queensland Education Department are still investigating to determine whether or not the daycare breached any regulations during the accident.
Sophie has since withdrawn her son from daycare and is now caring for him at home.
