It’s hard to look at these images. It’s even harder to believe that all three family members, a mother and her two toddlers, walked away from this terrifying crash unharmed.
On October 31, the Wakulla County Fire Rescue team posted photographs on their Facebook page of a three vehicle car crash they attended, prompting an important discussion about the life-saving powers of child seats.
If you look closely at the images, you’ll notice one of the child safety seats was cracked in half at the base, while still managing to save the life of the child strapped inside.
While there has since been speculation over the correct installation of the seats, members of the Wakulla County Fire Rescue (WCFR) were quick to praise the actions of the mother.
In a statement to the Washington Post, Fire Rescue Chief Mike Morgan admitted he spoke to the mother dirving the car.
“I communicated with the Mom [sic] this morning and she advised she had researched the seats and felt her children met the recommendations to secure them as she did.”
“WCFR is proud that this mother did choose to secure them and the fact that some feel it was not done according to some recommendation is secondary. The facts are that the children survived,” he said.
This miraculous escape serves as in important reminder to always taking the time to properly secure children in a safety seat no matter how quick the trip.
