He’s the proud father to four-month-old twin daughters, Lulu and Lottie.
But in a tearful new TV interview, Purple Wiggle Lachy Gillespie has revealed he hasn’t seen his little girls in “weeks” due to gruelling work commitments and is missing them terribly.
“They are so beautiful it makes me emotional looking at them,” the 34-year-old explained in an emotional confession during an appearance on Channel 7’s Morning Show on Monday.
“They’re in Melbourne at the moment with mum and her other son Jasper, so I haven’t seen them for a few weeks, which is probably why I’m emotional,” the children’s entertainer, who welcomed his daughters with fiancee Dana Stephensen in September last year, explained.
“When we showed those pictures, you welled up straight away,” host Larry Emdur remarked to an emotional Lachy.
The singer, who is currently in Sydney with his band The Wiggles, also revealed his daughters are non-identical twins and there’s a very easy way to tell them apart.
“Lulu’s got a lot more hair,” the star laughed.
“They’re doing really well. Nappies are good. They’re going beautifully,” he added, before explaining his girls’ favourite Wiggles song is Rock-A-Bye Your Bear.
Lachy’s latest television appearance was for a cause close to his heart – promoting Purple Day in August, an initiative to help raise awareness around epilepsy.
The musician’s own brother Cameron has had the condition all his life and the inspiration behind his work as an Epilepsy Australia ambassador.
After keeping their pregnancy under wraps, Lachy and Dana announced their surprise arrival via Instagram last year.
“Oh Lulu and Lottie, your mummy and daddy love you with all we have – you are both so beautiful – and I would love to sing to you both forever……… 🌈💜💜🌈,” he wrote at the time.
Since their arrival, the couple have delighted fans by sharing an unfiltered glimpse into what life is really like caring for two newborns.
“Life with newborn twins is brimming full but we already can’t imagine life without them in our arms,” ballet dancer Dana has said.
“It’s certainly very full, busy, relentless and overwhelming at times and I have utmost respect to any multiple parents out there!”
Dana also has a young son, Jasper, from a previous relationship with whom Lachy is extremely close to.
The pair’s romance was first confirmed in August 2019, after they fell for one another on the set of a Wiggles DVD special and they announced their engagement in April last year.
