When the Obama family took to the stage on the election night victory party in Chicago’s Grant Park, daughters Malia and Sasha were just 10 and seven-years-old, respectively. But in a previously unseen photo shared by Michelle Obama, the girls are now well and truly grown up.

To celebrate Thanksgiving in the US, former First Lady Michelle posted a photo of the family-of-four standing outside with their arms around one another.

“From our family to yours, #HappyThanksgiving!” the mother-of-two captioned the snap.

The photo was taken earlier in the year, and fans couldn’t help but remark how grown up Malia and Sasha look.

“Wow! Your girls have grown into beautiful young ladies!” one posted while another commented, “Wowww, your girls are so beautiful and growing fast!” followed by a series of heart-eyed emojis.

Now that’s what we call a picture perfect family photo!

While 21-year-old Malia looked casual in a light blue mini dress, her 18-year-old sister Sasha oozed glamour in a formal-looking black dress with heavy eye makeup. And it’s no wonder as the photo was taken ahead of her high school prom in May.

One fan commented “And Sasha is the queen of the pack,” underneath the photo whilst another simply penned, “Sasha” followed by six sparkling heart emojis.

Sasha’s date’s cousin posted a series of photos from the pre-prom celebrations on Twitter where both Michelle and Malia can be seen, as well as what looks like a secret service agent in the background.

We have to admit, they sure are one gorgeous family!

While it’s been hinted that Sasha is currently studying at the University of Michigan, her elder sister took a gap year in 2016 before enrolling at Harvard University, the same school where both her parents attended law school and is currently in her third year.

The former President even shared a very relatable parenting milestone when he described the emotional moment he dropped Malia at Harvard for the first time as “a little bit like open-heart surgery.”

“I was proud that I did not cry in front of her, but on the way back, the secret service was looking straight ahead pretending they weren’t hearing me as I sniffled and blew my nose. It was rough,” the father-of-two said.

The family have come a long way since 2008.

Michelle Obama also gave some pearls of wisdom about parenting to Duchess Meghan back when she was in the throngs of guest-editing the British Vogue September issue.

According to the Duchess of Sussex’s letter, the two discussed the project “over a casual lunch of chicken tacos and my ever-burgeoning bump” and Mrs Obama shared her tips for the royal parents-to-be.

“Motherhood has taught me that, most of the time, my job is to give them the space to explore and develop into the people they want to be. Not who I want them to be or who I wish I was at that age, but who they are, deep inside.”

“When Malia and Sasha were newborns, Barack and I could lose hours just watching them sleep. We loved to listen to the little sounds they’d make — especially the way they cooed when they were deep into dreaming,” she added.

“Don’t get me wrong, early parenthood is exhausting. I’m sure you know a thing or two about that these days. But there is something so magical about having a baby in the house. Time expands and contracts; each moment holds its own little eternity.”
