By now, word is well and truly out that Australian supermodel Nicole Trunfio is expecting her third child with her US musician husband, Gary Clark Jr.
But the WA-born stunner wasn’t actually planning on revealing the exciting news so soon.
Trunfio had been keeping her pregnancy quiet, until she accidentally made the announcement when she let slip in a late-night phone interview with her husband for ELLE Australia’s new October 2019 issue, revealing she was pregnant with the couple’s third child.
The 33-year-old, who is returning to Australia in November as the special guest at the Melbourne Cup Carnival’s Kennedy Oaks Day, is now 16 weeks pregnant, but had just hit the 12-week milestone when she gave the interview.
Speaking to her husband from her ranch in Austin, Texas, Trunfio dropped the news when asked by Clark what she does to “maintain her own identity”.
“I don’t know if we’re saying this, but I’m also 12 weeks pregnant right now,” the model said.
“So I’m committed to getting massages once every two weeks and I’ve never done that during a pregnancy.”
Clark, who is a Grammy-winning blues musician, was clearly surprised by his wife’s admission, responding: “Alright, so you’re just going to drop it like that, huh?”
“Yeah, that’s why I can’t sleep and I’m uncomfortable and I miss you and I’m emotional,” Trunfio responded.
“My family is my most important thing. Most people take for granted just being together every day as a unit. Those moments we’re all together, on the couch or waking up in bed – I’m crying again, I’m so pregnant – those feel really nurturing, and that’s the highest form of self-care for me.”
Shortly after the magazine’s cover reveal, Trunfio took to the runway at New York Fashion Week and shared a snap of her burgeoning baby bump to Instagram.
Trunfio and Clark, who have been married since 2016, are already parents to two children: son Zion, four, and daughter Gia, 20 months.
Trunfio made headlines back in 2015 when she posed on ELLE Australia’s subscriber cover while breastfeeding a then-four-month-old Zion.
Trunfio reflected on the reaction to that cover in her latest interview with the magazine, calling the support “phenomenal”.
“It’s amazing to see how many people need that kind of support,” Trunfio said.
“It’s so primal – it’s the first thing you think about doing when your baby starts crying, and there shouldn’t be anything blocking that nurturing, or any stigma or judgement about it. A breastfeeding woman does not want to show off her boobs. The goal is just to feed your child.”
