Whenever a Hollywood celebrity comes out with a new, weirder baby name (think: Apple, Bear Blaze Rocknroll or Pilot Inspektor), we think we’ve finally seen it all.
But, as it turns out – nope, we haven’t.
Not even a little bit.
A casual dining food chain in the US has announced their brand new competition online, simply called ‘Name Your Baby Quinoa’ – and, like its name suggests, there is only one condition of entry.
Step 1: Name your kid ‘Quinoa’ (seriously: after the grain). Step 2: Receive a $10,000 gift card for BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse.
We’re not sure, at this point, what Step 3 might be, but we can only assume it involves the word ‘therapy’.
BJ’s announced their ‘Name Your Baby Quinoa’ competition to promote their new “enLIGHTened” menu, which includes their “all-new Roasted Chicken with Spinach Quinoa Bowl”!
“We are so excited to introduce these amazing new Quinoa Bowls that we wanted to do something big, maybe even a little crazy,” said Kevin Mayer, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, “At the end of the day, we think Quinoa could be a great baby name.”
The rules of the competition are as follows: be a citizen of a US state (thank god, us Aussies are safe – for now), birth or adopt a baby and legally name it ‘Quinoa’. No ‘nicknaming’ or ‘middle naming’ allowed, please.
Then, after that (as if that wasn’t enough), you just have to hand in a copy of little Quinoa’s birth certificate to your local BJ’s and you’re in the running.
Unfortunately for those grain-happy parents out there, there can only be one winner. We’re not exactly sure how BJ’s will judge one baby Quinoa from another baby Quinoa for their eligibility, but we’ll leave that to them.
In fact, the only thing worse than a poor baby being named ‘Quinoa’, is more than one baby being named ‘Quinoa’.
Will someone please think of the children?
