My story of respite care

Alison’s daughter Jane just had her second baby, and after her husband left her, she relies heavily on her mother.

As well as supporting Jane through this difficult period, Alison also looks after her elderly father.

These commitments were taking their toll on Alison and after a suggestion from a neighbour, she looked into getting assisted care for her father a couple of times a week.

Alison’s father is now on the respite wait-list for twice a week day services located in a community hall with like-minded seniors with transport to and from home.

This means Alison can look after the grandkids without the stress and worry of doing it all.

Services like this are available through www.myagedcare.gov.au and mean that people like Alison, who are supporting their families, also receive the support they need.
