Concerns Over Mother Using Electric Device In Baby Bath

Water and electricity don't mix!

A cute video of a baby dancing in a bubble bath has received unwanted attention after YouTube users noted that the baby’s mother was using electric beaters to create the bubble bath.

The video, which was posted in May this year by Shonky Brothers, was meant to showcase the infant boy’s cute bathtime dancing to his parents’ beatboxing, but as can happen with the Internet, negative comments quickly changed the video’s tone.

“Electricity and water is always a smart idea,” wrote one commenter sarcastically.

“Next time use the hair dryer, it’s way more effective to make bubble,” another quipped.

“Just throw a toaster in for good measure,” another replied, alluding to the known dangers of mixing water and electricity.

“I wouldn’t use any electrical appliance in the bath tub with my baby,” added another.

“Maybe the GFI [Ground Fault Interrupter – a device designed to protect people from an electric shock] would trip if there was a problem, but it would not be worth the risk for me. Why not make your bubble bath first.. THEN put the baby in it?”

While the video has caused outrage from alarmed parents, there is due reason for concern. The first being that water and electricity definitely don’t mix. Electrical appliances should never be used near water or operated with wet hands.

The second concern is that young children aged zero to four years are a high risk of falls. Children this age having baths with a large amount of bubbles leaves them vulnerable to a slip or fall-related injury.

However, the golden rule to remember for bath safety is that children aged under five years must be supervised at all times. While the parents featured in this video were actively supervising their toddler at the time, hopefully they have since learned the danger of mixing electricity and water.
