Double congratulations are in order for Michelle Williams as she’s not only engaged to partner Thomas Kail but is also pregnant with her second child.
The 39-year-old four-time Oscar nominee is already mum to Matilda, 14, whom she shares with the late Heath Ledger, but it turns out the teen is responsible for her mum’s relationship.
Michelle’s new fiance was her director for the drama Fosse/Verdon, for which she won the Emmy Award for lead actress.
But according to a report by PEOPLE, it was Matilda who “played matchmaker” for the couple.
Matilda Rose Ledger was just two-years-old when her father passed away from an accidental drug overdose, shortly after Heath and Michelle broke up.
Michelle rarely discusses her personal life with the media but gave a rare and heartfelt insight back in 2018 to Vanity Fair.
“I never gave up on love,” she told the publication, saying that she has spent the 10 years since Ledger’s death looking for the kind of “radical acceptance” she felt from him.
“I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.’ ”
He may not be with her in person, but according to Heath’s sister Kate Ledger, she sees the Dark Knight star in Matilda.
“Now everything she does… the way she rides a skateboard… reminds me of Heath,” Kate said in the documentary.
“Now I’m really happy I’m at a stage I can see Matilda and be happy, and feel her daddy’s energy through her.”
