Even before she was an official royal, Meghan Markle has defied tradition and broken royal protocol from bringing her mother along to royal engagements to her fashion choices.
And with her first child due in just a few months, it seems that the Duchess of Sussex wants to do her own thing in the parenting department as well.
Instead of giving birth at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London like her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, Meghan reportedly wants to give birth closer to their new home in Windsor and has even considered a home birth.

Given that this is Meghan’s first baby doctors will most likely advise the duchess to give birth in hospital, but she wouldn’t be the first royal mum to give birth at home.

The Queen Mother gave birth to Queen Elizabeth at home and Her Majesty followed suit giving birth to Princes Charles, Andrew and Edward at home at Buckingham Palace while Princess Anne was born at Clarence House.
Princess Diana broke that tradition when Prince William and Prince Harry were born as both were birthed at the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in London. Duchess Catherine followed her late mother-in-law and gave birth to all three of her children at the same hospital with Prince William by her side.

Regardless of where she gives birth, there will be one key family member who will be by Meghan’s side during the birth… aside from Harry of course!
Meghan and her mum Doria Ragland have always had a close bond and now that the Duke and Duchess are expanding their family, it’s expected that Doria will be staying with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchild for a good amount of time.
“Doria plans to be around a lot when the baby arrives, and there are plans for her to have a dedicated space at their new home,” a source told Vanity Fair.
Harry and Meghan are preparing to move to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, and with 10 bedrooms, a new nursery and space for a gym and yoga studio, we feel that Doria will feel quite at home.
“She wants to be on hand to help Meghan and Harry with the baby,” the source continued.
“Doria will be involved and if she’s involved she will be encouraging Meg to go for a natural birth.”
Meghan previously spoke about her mum’s holistic attitude to life and her free-spirited personality on her now defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig.
“For me to watch this level of lifelong sensitivity to nurturing and caregiving, but at the same time my mum has always been a free spirit.”

Despite being royal, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are determined to keep their children grounded.
Us Weekly‘s royal correspondant Omid Scobie says that Harry and Meghan plan to “bring up children who know the values of normal things in life.”
“Meghan will take her kids on a subway. They’ll have chores, and jobs one day,” Scobie tells the magazine. “They won’t be spoiled.”
We also gained a little insight into what Duchess Meghan will be like as a mum from a former interview during her Suits days. In a quickfire interview with UK TV channel Dave, Meghan confessed that the book she can’t wait to read to her children is Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree.
Even her rescue dog Guy has his own book, so Baby Sussex is bound to be entertained!
