A mother’s heart exists outside of her body and within her children, and that notion means her child’s pain and joy is hers too.
However, if you were to ask a mum if she would have it any other way, of course she would say no because from the moment she met her bub, life took on a whole new selfless meaning.
Model Megan Gale clearly understands this after penning an emotional letter dedicated to her beloved son, River, to express her unconditional love on his seventh birthday.
Megan took to her Instagram to pay tribute to River, and she posted two never before seen family photos.
“7 years ago today River arrived into the world, a day I’ll never forget.
“It’s such a gift and a blessing to be Mama to this beautiful, kind, funny and wise old soul 🥰 Thank you for choosing me my darling boy ✨,,” wrote Megan.
The first picture, Megan is holding her newborn son in the hospital, and the second image she posted is a recent moment of her son River enjoying the beach with his sister, Rosie, three.
In the post’s comment section, Megan’s famous friends shared their loving reaction to the special message.
Natalie Bassingthwaighte posted, “And so he did 😇,” and Anna Heinrich sweetly posted a string of heart-eye emojis, “😍😍😍.”
Alex Fevola commented, “So beautiful ❤️,” and Michelle Bridgers shared this endearing sentiment, “How special it is ❤️❤️❤.”
Woman’s Weekly was treated to an exclusive peek into Megan’s home life in 2019, and the model told us about how her son River’s birth was a bittersweet experience.
Because even though Megan was overjoyed to meet her firstborn, his entry into the world was during a time of tragedy for the family.
Megan’s partner, Shaun lost his father, Tom, to prostate cancer a month before, and then Megan’s father, Alan, passed away 14 weeks after his grandson was born after his battle with lung cancer.
“It definitely wasn’t the experience I thought I’d be having with a newborn,” shared Megan.
“But while we knew it was horrible, we were all thinking, thank God we’ve got this baby. You’ve got the end of life and the beginning of life …
“If we didn’t have him there, I can’t imagine what it would have been like.”
Megan likes to keep her family life private, but she has been open about her journey into motherhood and how it has changed her life for the better.
In 2019, Megan spoke to Good Health about transitioning from the fast-paced modelling industry to family life.
“The nature of my old job was deadlines,” Megan told the publication. “You know, ‘quick, we need to get the shot because the light goes!’, ‘quick, change your outfit and get back on the catwalk!’.”
“It was ‘go, go, go’ all the time. I became programmed and conditioned to think that it was normal. That would then drip-feed into my private life, so even when I wasn’t working, I’d be racing around. I’d only stop when I was burnt out.
“Becoming a mum has changed it all. It’s made me slow down and re-priorities what’s important. Things I used to get upset about, I don’t get upset about any more. Your kids are so special and so precious, you don’t want to waste time worrying about things that don’t matter, or worrying about things that you have no control over.”
