Looking stressed out and upset, Jasmine Stefanovic packed up her car at her parents’ home in Brisbane last week, before preparing to drive north on her own to the Noosa home she and husband Karl Stefanovic recently bought.
“She had so much luggage it was clear this was more than just a couple of weeks at her holiday home. This looked permanent,” reveals a source to Woman’s Day, who says tensions have been simmering between Karl and Jasmine, who tied the knot in Mexico in December 2018.
“After the birth of Harper, Karl played his cards as the perfect dad for the first few weeks but he’s slipped right back into his old ways. Jasmine is feeling fed up,” says our source, who insists the designer and new mum is nothing short of “exhausted” and has told Karl she needs some time out.
On top of the usual tensions a newborn brings, Jasmine is said to be losing her patience with Karl, who appears to have been skipping nappy duties for a spot of day drinking with buddies.
“It was Karl’s boozy boat trip with a bunch of high flyers that upset Jasmine,” spills the source.
Just weeks after his new daughter’s birth in May, Karl hit the water with a bunch of high-powered mates, including Paul Whitaker, head of Sky News, his brother Peter, powerbrokers and politicians, while Jasmine was at home with baby Harper and her parents.
Making matters worse, Karl enjoyed another all-day session with his mates Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald and Ben Fordham at Randwick Racecourse a few weeks later.
“Jasmine’s had her parents at their home, which on one hand really has helped Jasmine wade through the tough early days of motherhood, but it also led to growing tensions at the family home. I think her mum and dad could see the cracks were beginning to show,” says the source.
In his own words, Karl, who shares children Jackson, 20, Ava, 15, and River, 14, with his ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn, has admitted to the difficulty of work and a new baby.
“Everything hurts. I’m tired. Emotional,” he confessed on TV on his first day back at work, joking, “I’d go home, but it’s too much work!”
And while the TV WEEK Gold Logie winner has seen the lighter side of his situation, our source insists Jasmine is feeling more than a little fed up.
Noticeably downcast last week, Jasmine was spotted without her $120,000 diamond engagement ring and wedding band as she arrived at the Sunshine Coast holiday home.
“Jasmine is a no-nonsense sort of girl. Now she has Harper she’ll do everything she can to secure their future,” says the source, who insists her recent trip to Noosa is “her first step towards making sure Karl knows she means business.
“She plans to have a chat to him about shaping up,” says the source.
“Her parents will be hoping Jasmine and their first grandchild stay in Queensland, since it’s only a two-hour drive from their home in Brisbane,” explains the insider.
