With two directorial efforts under her belt and more on the way, Angelina Jolie is going from award-winning actress to accomplished movie-maker.
And the fact hasn’t escaped her father, Jon Voight. Now 76, he tries to maintain a civil relationship with his daughter, who has famously never forgiven him for cheating on her mum, Marcheline Betrand.
While he is seen with her more frequently these days as Ange’s kids with Brad Pitt grow up, Jon wasn’t invited to the couple’s wedding last year.
But that hasn’t stopped Jon from declaring he would love to work as an actor in one of her movie efforts.
“I love my daughter, and I’m very impressed by her directing,” he tells Cigar Aficionado magazine. “I thought Unbroken was brilliant… Now I’d like to be directed by her.”
Angelina, who along with Unbroken has also directed In the Land of Blood and Honey and is currently finishing By the Sea, which she also starred in, has revealed she feels more comfortable directing than acting.
“I loved being an actor, but I’m happier shining a light on them,” she says.
Jon insists he and Ange have overcome their differences and he is now an “interactive” grandparent to Maddox, 14, Pax, 11, Zahara, 10, Shiloh, 9, and seven-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
“I’m crazy about [Ange] and my grandchildren,” he says. “The happiest sound for me is sitting in my house and hearing children and their laughter coming from the field.”
