Whether it’s embarrassing her two teenage daughters Allegra and Giselle by filming TikToks, or making us laugh with her classic mum confessions – Jess always keeps it real.

So it comes as no surprise that the former Studio 10 host has some very relatable plans for Mother’s Day this weekend.

Jess says for Mother’s Day this year, she wants some “peace and quiet”.

“Mother’s Day is all about – do not bug me! I want to be left in peace, in bed preferably! Just no one wanting a thing from me all day, that’s my idea of heaven,” she tells Now To Love with a laugh.

“Don’t ask me for anything, don’t ask me to organise anything – just leave me alone. And I say that every year.

“We spend so much time in our lives juggling everyone else’s needs and never stopping. So for me to stop and to just have no one need a thing from me, I just think that is blissful.”

Jess shares an inseparable bond with her daughters Allegra, 15, and Giselle, 12.

As for keeping her relationship fresh and exciting with her husband, Nine News presenter Peter Overton, Jess says it’s all about carving out alone time.

But for Jess and Petey, as she affectionately calls him, life often gets in the way of their plans!

“Petey and I used to talk about “let’s do a date night every week”. But things seem to get busy and all of that but if we can, we maybe try once a month,” she says.

“We do try and carve out some time for the two of us to have dinner and to have a chat and put our phones away and to just catch up.”

As any of her fans would know, Jess doesn’t take herself too seriously. And it’s her sense of humour that keeps her marriage fun.

“I muck around a bit in terms of I like to dress up and do stupid costumes and try to make him laugh and he just rolls his eyes. But that’s part of what we do, he’s part of the straight act,” she laughs.

“But we have fun with that and even more so for us, we are great friends. Petey is my best friend and we talk about everything.

“He makes me laugh. Even though you don’t necessarily see it a lot, he does have a great sense of humour. We enjoy one another’s company and making the most of the time that we have together.”

And after 18 years of marriage, it’s the “little things” Peter does for Jess in their everyday lives that keeps her more in love than ever.

“He will make me a cup of coffee every morning and bring it to me in bed. It’s stuff like that that I love. He’s thinking of me and he knows that I like that,” she gushes.

“Our garage is tight and I’m not renowned for my driving skills but each day he will drive the car out for me and make it so it’s easy for me to drive out of the driveway.

“Things like that that just show he’s thinking of me. He’s a real darling.”

Jess and Peter tied the knot in 2004.
