Dominic Perrottet is the 46th premier of New South Wales, and while it’s a career-defining achievement for the politician, it doesn’t quite rival the demands of his home life.
That’s because the 40-year-old is a father of a substantial seven children!
Dom and his wife Helen are parents to daughters Charlotte, Amelia, Annabelle, Harriet, Beatrice, and Celeste, along with son William.
And as we enter into a NSW State election, the interest into Dom’s big clan is at an all time high.
Whilst having seven kids may seem like a big deal for the average person, the premier is used to the large brood dynamic as he comes from a family of 12.
During the devout Catholic’s first day in the big office, a reporter asked how he intends to juggle family life and his duties as premier.
“I think what I might lose in time, I gain in perspective. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and I am no different to that, but one thing I do know is that I have a very strong team around me,” he replied to the reporter.
“I have a strong family, and I have a strong ministerial team who will ensure that our focus is on the people of NSW. Yes, I have family commitments, but that should not disqualify one from the job.”
In 2019, Dom also spoke to Good Weekend magazine about his values.
“It’s challenging to balance work and family life and make sure that when you’re home, you’re home, not somewhere else,” he said. “It’s something [father, John] instilled in me: you get your happiness and joy in life from your family.”
Besides a clear love of big families, Dom and his wife Helen share a passion for the law.
Before becoming a politician, he was a lawyer, and Helen worked as an Australian Federal Police officer and then became a solicitor.
It’s safe to assume that the Perrottets have a lot of hats they must wear during the day, but considering their success, they must be doing something right.
