She’s always maintained that motherhood is one of her life ambitions, and Delta Goodrem is finally getting the chance to start a family.
Following recent reports the Australian singer tied the knot with her musician partner Matthew Copley in Byron Bay over new year, Woman’s Day is now told the couple had double the reason to celebrate – they’re believed to be expecting their first child together!
“Delta and Matthew announced their happy news to close friends on New Year’s Eve and they were over the moon, despite it initially being a bit of a shock,” reveals a source close to the Voice Australia coach.
“Delta says she still wants to keep things hush-hush, but she was so excited to tell her closest friends the good news and not be under pressure to hide the fact she wasn’t drinking.”
Delta Goodrem, 34, is said to have had a relatively easy start to her pregnancy.
Although she’s had some mild nausea and tiredness, in general she’s feeling great.
“She can’t wait to become a mum and is enjoying her little secret. She and Matt will make great parents.”

Secret struggle
As much as she’s always dreamed of being a mum, Delta has previously admitted she was worried it might not happen for her, at least not naturally, due to the treatment she received while battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2003.
“I don’t know if [I’ll] be able to have children because the treatment can make you infertile,” Delta explained a year after her diagnosis.
“At 18, I felt I was too young to think about having my eggs frozen.”
With Delta’s fertility fears niggling away at the back of her mind, our source says after she and Matt decided they wanted to be together forever, they agreed to just “see what happened” and not waste any time starting to try for a family together.

Moving home
The pair, who have been dating for just over a year, currently spend most of their time in Los Angeles.
However, friends close to the parents-to-be say they’re planning to relocate back to Australia before the birth.
They want to be closer to their families and are also eager for their little one to grow up surrounded by his or her cousins.
“Delta and Matthew are looking at potential family homes because they’re keen to bring up their baby Down Under,” the friend explains.
Practice makes perfect
While she’s counting down the months until she’s got her own baby in her arms, Delta’s had plenty of practice as doting aunty to her younger brother Trent’s two children, Nate, two, and five-month old Emmy.
She often posts photos of herself cradling her adorable nephew and niece to social media.
“[Right now] my love is directed to my beautiful baby nephew,” Delta has previously gushed.
“I always knew it [motherhood] would be a little later in life for me – I always knew that.”
“Of course I look forward to when that chapter is, and that will be a beautiful moment. I know when I do, I will give it my everything.”
