If you’re a parent whose kids go absolutely bonkers for the amazing free toys you can score at your local supermarket after doing your weekly grocery shop, we’ve got some amazing news for you!
Both Coles and Woolworths are going all out with new toy collections to win the hearts of Aussie kids – and they both drop from this Wednesday July 17.
To mark the release of Disney’s incredible film reboot of The Lion King, starring Beyonce and Elton John, Woolies is launching a limited edition Ooshies collection.
From Wednesday, Woolworths customers will be able to collect a Lion King Ooshie with every $30 they spend in store or online, while stocks last.
The collection will feature 24 Ooshies, featuring 9 favourite characters from The Lion King, including Simba, Nala and Mufasa in original colours and gold versions.
There is also a special cub version of Simba and Nala, and a translucent blue “Spirit Mufasa” Lion King Ooshie to collect.
And if you’ve got any unwanted Ooshie’s lying around, Woolies has introduced a great new sustainability initiative with TerraCyle. You can return your Ooshies to your local supermarket before October 30 and they will be turned into plastic pellets, which will be used to make outdoor products such as garden beds, decks, fences and benches.
Not to be outdone by Woolies, Coles are also getting in on the act, launching a second collection of Little Shop minis, Little Shop 2
From Wednesday, Coles customers will be offered a free collectable with every $30 spent at in store and online. Plus, for the first time, parents will be able to collect Little Shop minis at Coles Express with fuel or convenience store purchases.
There will be 30 mini replicas available for customers to collect, with the new collection celebrating some of Australia’s most iconic supermarket products, including Arnott’s Original Barbecue Shapes, Heinz Baked Beans, Tip Top bread and Campbell’s tomato soup.
And one of the most popular items from last year making a comeback. Vegemite has created a special edition vintage mini that we have no doubt is going to be super popular!

Parents will remember the frenzy caused by both of these toy collections last year, with certain items including mini trolleys, baskets, shopfronts, aprons and shopping bags selling out within days of last year’s launch.
To prevent that from happening again and customers facing disappointment, Coles says it is introducing additional products including a brand new Coles replica truck and a cute toy cash register, as well as new collector cases.
Best of luck out there at your local supermarket, parents!
