A British bridesmaid has gone to crazy lengths to stop herself from upstaging the bride and veiled her labour pains through gritted smiles as she participated in the ceremony.
According to the UK’s Express a heavily pregnant Lucy Morris hid her contractions as she walked down the aisle for the wedding of her sister Emma Rotherham, even posing for pictures and attending most of the reception.
Lucy, 29, told the paper she didn’t want to miss her sister’s special day.
“I wanted to watch my sister say ‘I do’ and didn’t want to steal the limelight by giving birth,” she said.
“My due date was a week before the wedding so we always knew it was going to be close but I never imagined I’d go into labour while walking down the aisle.
“I don’t know how I made it through the ceremony, I was in agony.”
The ceremony was a small affair consisting of about 100 guests but no one seemed to see through the new mother’s happy façade until she was just about to pop at the reception.
“I was halfway through my first mouthful of food at the reception when the contractions got deeper and longer,” said Lucy.
“I was struggling to breathe and thought my waters were going to break.”
Morris, who works as a primary school teacher, gave birth to baby Izzy 13 hours later.
Newlywed Emma told the local reporters she was only too happy to share her day with her new niece.
“This was only ever going to be a double celebration not something that would be taking shine away from the wedding,” she said.
