She was the third generation to wear the dress down the aisle. So sweet!

A US woman has carried on the legacy of her mother and grandmother by restoring their wedding dress and wearing it on her own big day.

Julie Christensen was the third generation to wear the same wedding dress down the aisle.

“My maternal grandmother, Phyllis, passed it on to my mother, Susan, who gave it to me,” she said.

The dress had some alterations made to it – Julie’s mother removed the hoop underskirt, jacket sleeves and sweetheart neckline.

It was a long process to restore the heritage dress – including heavy cleaning and repair work to the lace – but the end result was stunning!

The transformation process

What’s more sweet about this story is that Julie’s grandfather Harold walked her down the aisle, just like he’d done for his daughter Susan and first wife Phyllis.

The new bride has some advice for those wanting to restore old wedding dresses:

“While still cheaper than many new dresses, altering a 60+-year-old dress is not inexpensive and it takes an understandably long time,” she wrote on her blog.

“Start early, and get everything in writing.”

She said of the experience: “I could not be happier we went through the crazy alterations journey to create my one-of-a-kind sentimental wedding gown. It was perfect.”
