Bindi Irwin breaks down in memory of her dad Steve

This week’s theme was most memorable year, and Bindi didn’t have to search very far to figure out what that was for her.

“What shaped me the most would be when my dad passed away,” she told her partner Derek Hough during rehearsals of the tragic 2006 sting ray accident that tragically took Steve’s life.

“It’s been nine years and I’ve never really dwelled on that point when he did pass away. I’m ready to tell that story,” she added.

In a tear-jerking moment, Bindi’s mum Terri also apoke of losing her husband.

“Bindi was so strong at the time [of Steve’s death],” the mother-of-two explained.

“But when you love someone that much, it’s like totally losing a piece of your heart. You’re really not going to get over it,” the 51-year-old added through tears.

The 17-year-old then began to break down during her interview, “It took a really long time to understand what actually happened,” she said.

Bindi and her partner danced in tribute of Steve to a touching rendition of Police’s Every Step You Take.

The passion, emotiona and heart was beyond palpable and the judges felt it too.

She was awarded 28 out 30 with judge Bruno Tonioli giving the wildlife warrior the first 10 of the series.

“He was dancing with you every step of the way,” he told her.
